Inventory Breakdown

The Story

Sometimes automobile factories produce more parts than they need and then have to figure out what to do with the excess. That was the case with a surplus of 440 high performance engines, which were typically destined for sport models including Chargers, Challengers, 'Cudas, and GTXs. This Chrysler 300 was one of around 120 convertibles to receive the high performance 440 engine, which boasted 375 horsepower versus the standard 440 which made 350 horsepower, thanks to 10.5:1 compression and a different cam and valvetrain. Commonly known as the V-code "Six-Pack" 440 when topped with 3x2 BBL intake and carbs, it becomes a U-code with a 4 BBL intake and carb like this car. Chrysler also paired a heavy duty transmission with these engines (Option code D32), which is present in this car.

This 300 was purchased by the current owner in 2017 from a C-Body collector in Southern California who had it in storage for many years. The collector had purchased it out of Northern California from the second owner, so it has had four owners. Based on verbal confirmations along the way, the mileage is reportedly original. The car sat for many years, mainly because the collector did not like convertibles, but purchased it due to its rarity of the "U code" TNT 440 powerplant.

What You Get

This is a running and limited driving car with the original drivetrain. The 440 idles very well, has good compression, and and makes great power. Everything under the hood is in original condition including the dual snorkel air cleaner and finned exhaust manifold on the driver side. The transmission functions as intended with no issues other than some oil collecting on the pan. It is currently running off of a separate gas can, as the condition of the gas tank and lines are unknown. With the exception of the donor hood, all of the body is original and has has one respray. The floors are solid with no rust other than some surface crust in the trunk. All of the tinted glass is original and in great condition. Factory options include power disc brakes up front, electric windows, electric door locks, tilt/telescopic column, fender mounted turn signals, and cruise control. The front bucket seats are replacements and not in the correct color. Additional interior parts, hub caps, trim, and patch panels for the rear passenger quarter.

What You Need

The passenger quarter panel has rust on the bottom and can be fixed with sheet metal from the donor car that is included with the sale. The rear valence also has some damage that will need to be assessed. The driver door has some dents that may be able to be popped out, at least partially. The convertible top is in disrepair and should be replaced. The rest of the cosmetics are optional to fix depending on how correct and up to date the new owner would like them to be. A new set of tires will be in order.
