The Story
Are you ready for this British Restomod? This Jaguar XJ6 Series 2 Coupe entered the USA through the Port of Los Angeles and was sold new by Peter Satori Co. LTD in Pasadena, CA. It came from the factory with the 4.2L I6 and automatic transmission. Notable options that are still present include power steering, 4 wheel power disc brakes, air conditioning, electric windows, heated rear window, tinted glass, tachometer-trip odometer, and leather seats, as seen on the original window sticker.
It was acquired by the late owner in 1998 with grand visions of an American V8 powered Jaguar sport coupe. The factory motor and transmission were swapped with a Chevy 5.7L sourced from a 1979 Camaro and an automatic TH-350, both of which were rebuilt and installed in 2001. The photograph in the gallery shows the restored motor and trans prior to install. The owner was able to obtain one of the limited CA SB100 smog certifications to allow it to pass CA smog with a non-original motor.
A common story you will see here on Build My Ride is that projects stall out when children arrive in the family. In this case, the first of three children arrived in 2003, followed by 2005 and 2009. Family took priority and the Jaguar sat for 20 years. The spouse knew how much he loved this car and how badly he wanted to finish it, so she submitted it to the TV show Overhaulin' in 2009, but it was not selected for the show. Build My Ride is representing this cool Jag with no reserve on behalf of the owner's family.
What You Get
The drivetrain is complete, as the Jaguar was running and driving prior to parking. Based on a 2003 invoice and current odometer, it was driven 37 miles. A 2018 invoice states that the car was towed in after sitting for 15 years, had wires crossed on the starter relay, gas was added and it fired up. With a battery hooked up, the engine turns over with the ignition key.
The rust free body has already been professionally prepared for paint, which took place in 2003 at the cost of $2,200. The body work and paint prep are very high quality and will only require final prep. There is no evidence or signs of rust anywhere on the body or floors. The seats wear the original red leather upholstery, which is dry and cracked, but usable if you wish. The bumpers currently mounted are not original to the car and of unknown vintage. The vast majority of parts needed to complete the car after it's painted are included as pictured. Clean CA Title and currently registered as Non-Op.
What You Need
The wiring for the center console control panel needs to be completed, as none of the switches seem to be working. It is unknown if the electric window motors are working. Dash and other interior trim needs to be installed. The passenger door does not unlock and will not open from the inside or outside.
Once the body has been painted, all exterior trim and badges will need to be installed.
The status of the air conditioning is unknown, but invoices show parts and work completed. The tires are old and need to be replaced before driving on public roads.
