The Story

This Lemon Twist ‘70 Barracuda slipped into the dark side and is begging to be brought back to its original “high impact” yellow paint. No matter which color you pick, this unmistakable musclecar is ready to build into your dream ride. Packaged with this Barracuda are a choice of a complete 383 HP or a 440 HP block, heads and intake, along with a 727 automatic transmission core.

The seller, a dedicated Mopar enthusiast, chased this Barracuda for a decade after a friend found it in Madera, California. The friend bought it in 1994 with restoration dreams but never started, letting it sit for 30 years until a recent move prompted the sale to the seller earlier this year. The previous owners confirmed it as a lifelong California car and it retains its original fender tag. With other projects taking priority, the seller offers this Barracuda for its next owner to bring back to life. The seller holds a clean California title in the previous owner's name, with a reserve that must be met.

What You Get

Drivetrain & Chassis:
This 1970 Barracuda, VIN BH23G0E121527, came from the factory with a 318ci V8, delivering 230 horsepower, paired with an A904 automatic transmission and an 8 3/4 inch rear axle. The original engine and transmission are missing, making it a rolling chassis ready for your powertrain choice. The buyer will also have the option of choosing either a 383 or a 440, both of which are good rebuildable engines, at no additional cost. The 383 is a 1964 HP motor that is mostly complete and spins freely, which means it could be a runner. The 440 is a standard bore 1977 HP block that was removed from a police car and is free from cracks or other visible defects, along with matching heads and intake. To transfer the power is a rebuildable 727 automatic transmission. The factory suspension, power steering, and four-wheel manual drum brakes are all in place. The rear axle spins freely, and all chassis components appear unmolested.

Body & Frame:
Finished originally in the high impact color of Lemon Twist, the original paint can still be seen in many areas on the car. The only bondo identified on the car was to fill in the holes for the rear trim pieces that were deleted. Both factory bumpers are in place, with the rear bumper showing a slight bend. The hood and nose piece are from donor cars. The fenders and front valence are new from AMD. The doors are from a ‘70 ‘Cuda and only have some minor rust bubbles on the bottom front edges. They open and close well with functioning windows. The rockers are in good condition. The non-original rear valance has the exhaust cutouts.

The rust in the body is primarily limited to both lower rear quarters, which can be taken care of with patch panels. There is rust on the bottom edge of the rear window on the deck filler panel, but an original panel and package tray is included to fix it.

With the exception of the cracked windshield, all other factory glass is in great condition. The windows roll up and down. All of the window trim that is not installed is included as pictured. The center part of the grill is included, but the headlight buckets are missing.

Interior & Floors:
The interior retains its factory dash, gauges, steering wheel, bucket seats, rear seat, and rear interior panels. To help get a jumpstart on the interior, new door panels, seat backs, and rear seat panels are included. The original seats were recovered many years ago in their factory black vinyl and are ready for new foam and covers. The rods for the headliner are included to complete the job. The floors are in good condition with a small amount of rust on the passenger side pans.

What You Need

Drivetrain & Chassis:
The missing 318ci V8 and A904 transmission leave the drivetrain a blank slate. The 8 3/4 inch rear axle is ready for a performance makeover if desired. The drum brakes require a full rebuild (shoes, lines, hardware) or upgrade to disc brakes. A driveshaft, fuel system, and battery are needed. Suspension bushings and shocks should be checked and replaced as necessary. The tires are rollers and need to be replaced if the current wheels are to be utilized.

Body & Frame:
Bodywork will be focused on the lower rear quarters and the deck filler panel below the rear window. The quarters can be repaired with patch panels. The deck filler panel can be repaired with the included OEM donor panel, which also has the package tray support attached. The bondo in the tail end of the quarters will need to be removed or redone depending on the look desired. All new weather stripping is required.

Along with headlights, the fender side markers are needed and the tail lights to be assessed. The center grill has a crack as pictured, but is otherwise in good condition. Replacement headlight buckets will need to be sourced. The cracked windshield should be replaced.

Interior & Floors:
The seats are ready to be recovered and new seat backs and door panels from Classic Industries are included to match. The headliner and carpet are missing, requiring new kits. The dash is weathered and should be restored or replaced. All of the wiring will need to be assessed for completeness and functionality.

There are two areas on the floor pans that will need patching. One is an area on the front passenger pan and the other is the backside edge of the rear passenger pan. The rust is from water coming in from the top, not from underneath. The trunk is rusted out and will need a new floor installed.
