The Story

Are you into Restomods or Pro Touring? This 1967 Mustang Coupe has a great history, and it's up to you to decide which direction it goes next. It rolled off of the San Jose, CA assembly line in January 1967 and began its journey in Los Angeles as a stylish Clearwater Aqua cruiser, equipped with a 200ci straight-6 engine and C4 automatic transmission. It survived many years in stock trim, and was later transformed into a formidable drag racer, sporting new black paint, and achieving impressive quarter-mile times of less than 10 seconds.

After its racing days, the Mustang was returned to street duty. In 2018, it was traded for a Terminator Cobra, and the previous owner began enhancements to the wiring, gauges, and interior. However, with the arrival of twin babies a year after the trade, the project build was paused until the current owner acquired it in January 2020, after a long search for a quality rolling chassis that was ready to handle high horsepower.

Despite his enthusiasm for it, the current owner has prioritized other projects, realizing that it will be some time before he can dedicate attention to this Mustang. He now hopes to pass it on to someone who will appreciate it, complete the build, and enjoy many rides in the future.

This Mustang holds a clean CA title in the seller's name and is currently registered as Non-Operational status with CA DMV. There is no Reserve price, so this Stang will be going to a new home!

What You Get

This is a rolling chassis, which has been stiffened with welded subframe connectors and a 6 point roll cage that is welded to the subframe in the middle and bolted to the front floor and trunk floor. It previously had a 351 Cleveland and a manual valve body C4 transmission. The rear axle is a big bearing 9 inch with 3.25:1 gear ratio and unknown brand of posi-traction. The axle is supported with leaf springs and Calvert Racing CalTracs traction bars. It has Competition Engineering shocks in the front and Rancho 9000 5-way adjustable shocks in the rear, which are commonly recommended when using CalTracs. It has two driveshaft safety loops, which are bolted to the subframe and floor. It has Ford disc brakes in front with cross-drilled rotors and drum brakes in the rear. The wheels are U.S. Mags Rambler in Gunmetal, with 17 inch diameter in front and 18 inch diameter in the rear. The front tires are 215/45/17 and the rear tires are 255/40/18.

The engine compartment was sanded, primed and painted by the previous owner. The shock towers are notched for extra clearance of bigger engines and headers. It is stiffened with triangulated rods and heim joints. It has a large aluminum 2 row radiator measuring 28 inches across with dual electric fans by Perma-Cool. The braking system incorporates a dual reservoir master cylinder and a Line-Lock solenoid. The battery has been relocated to the trunk. The Mustang was running FiTech fuel injection, so it has an AeroFlow inline electric fuel pump with pre and post fuel filters, plus a return line that goes back into the fuel cell. A transmission cooler is mounted in the trunk. A new 2.5" H-Pipe exhaust is included, which has Flowmaster FlowFX mufflers and electronic exhaust cut-outs.

The body on this Mustang is free of rust thanks to its life in Southern California. The doors open and shut with low effort and have a great factory feel and alignment. The trunk lid and matching quarter panel extensions are made of fiberglass in the style of the GT500. The unfinished new hood is a fiberglass GT500 style, with a billet style GT500 fog light grill below it. The Shelby style front valence and both bumpers are fiberglass. The floors are rust free and do not appear to have ever been replaced. The rear sections of the floors were cut to allow the chassis stiffening bars into the cabin so the roll cage could be welded directly to them. Side windows and rear glass are original, while the windshield is a replacement.

The interior retains stock door panels and handles. The seats are aftermarket buckets and are not secured to the floor. 4 Point seatbelt harnesses are in good condition. The dash pad is new and never installed. The gauge cluster and dash face pieces are new Deluxe Interior style reproductions. The gauge cluster includes all new retrofit gauges from AutoMeter and has been wired to the new Kwik Wire wiring harness, which has been routed throughout the vehicle and ready for finishing. A B&M ratchet shifter is mounted on the transmission tunnel.

What You Need

The project will require an engine and transmission as it currently does not have either. It’s configured for automatic transmissions, but it could be converted to manual with minimal effort prior to the engine and transmission selection. You will also require a driveshaft depending on your selected transmission. A new Kwik Wire 14 circuit Ford wiring harness has been partially installed and will need finishing. All of the wires have labels, clearly printed to take the guesswork out of it. The gauge cluster is not installed but included along with the other Deluxe Interior dash pieces.

The new dash pad is included but not yet installed. The seats are loosely attached, so they must be securely fit and installed if they are to be utilized. Window regulators require new bushings for both driver's side windows. The GT500 fiberglass hood will need the finishing of your choice and final mounting. The trunk lid has a stain on the paint and will need to be refinished. The Mustangs to Fear GT500 fog light grille insert must be mounted and the trim surrounding it requires new clips. The front fiberglass bumper should be aligned and requires proper mounting hardware. Various weather stripping should be added or replaced. Door sill plates are included, but have not been installed.

Most rubber hoses and bushings are showing signs of drying. Complete hose replacement is recommended. The fuel cell, if retained, must be fully secured. The Optima battery is dead and can be used as a core.
