The Story

In 1939 the Dodge truck was used widely across America for work and business. Agriculture, Delivery, Construction, and Industry. In preparation for WWII, the Dodge truck was used in Military Service for transporting supplies and personnel. While less common, some individuals and families owned trucks for personal transportation, especially in rural areas where their versatility and durability were highly valued. Period advertising campaigns for Dodge leaned into slogans like "Are you Job Rated”? The iconic Dodge Ram sits atop the hood projecting strength and formidability.

This 1939 Dodge truck has been in project status for 15 years. The project comes with limited details as the late owner maintained little records for the family to share. What we do know is that this 1/2 Ton TC inspired the owner to build a garage, as seen in the photos, on the vacant lot where it first found its home. The current status of the project indicates that the owner was intending to restore the vehicle to factory specs based on the lack of any modifications. A valuable detail we can confirm is that the engine was rebuilt. “A significant amount of money was spent rebuilding the motor.” according to the family.

Build My Ride is representing this great project truck with no reserve on behalf of the owner's family.

What You Get

The 1939 Dodge project comes with a complete drivetrain and a rebuilt Spitfire flathead inline 6, which would not be original to this truck. Photos indicate that the clutch appears new and the drivetrain has never been run. We see no proof of the 4-Speed manual transmission being rebuilt or not, but one might conclude that it is unlikely it would be reassembled in the drivetrain in a non-operable condition.

The frame of the truck is in excellent condition with no sign of any rust, cracks, or repairs. Sitting on the frame is a solid cab with minimal body work still required to make it straight. The cab floors have a few small rust holes, but are generally solid. Fenders, hood components, and front cowl, are all clean and show little body work required with little to no body filler detected. The truck bed needs the most attention due to what appears to be heavy use. The project comes with both running boards, with the passenger side in great condition and driver side is worn from normal use.

Highlights of the project include a complete front end, complete drivetrain with reportedly rebuild motor, rust free frame, body work started, and original dash gauges.

What You Need

The project will require all of the glass to be replaced, except for the passenger door. The interior of the truck is mostly missing finishes such as bench seat, door panels, and hardware. Factory gauges are included, but their working condition is unknown. The truck appears to need a complete wiring harness.

The truck body is solid and mostly complete. Large components of the front end including grill, hood, and fenders, need to be mounted and aligned with some areas of minor body work required. The cab appears to have had some body work and will require further work to be completed. The truck bed is in fair condition with exception to the passenger rear portion where the tailgate latches. The passenger bed fender has numerous dents and will require significant body work while the driver side is in fair condition. The bed is currently loose and requires a way to properly mount it to the truck frame. The bed is also missing the wooden floor. A tailgate is included that is lacking the embossed Dodge script, which was for owners that wanted to put their business name on it. These trucks came with one brake light on the driver side, but this one is missing.

Some of the front wheel studs are loose and should be checked and replaced as needed. Two of the wheels are stock and two are the "artillery" style with 10 holes. The fuel tank has visible rust holes and should be replaced. All four tires will need to be replaced prior to driving. Tires appear to hold air enough to assist in transportation of the project.
