The Story
This 1965 Galaxie 500 rolling chassis was purchased by the current owner for an advanced, blank slate project that he was pretty sure he'd never have time for, but he still needed to have it. He envisioned this car in a low, aggressive Trans-Am style or LeMans Euro style racer with Weber carbs, wide tires, yellow fog lights, vintage Porsche style bucket seats, and a sequential manual transmission. There are numerous suspension systems available to bolt into this chassis, such as Hotchkis and Ridetech if you want to bag it and slam it. The large engine bay can fit nearly anything, possibly a 5.0L Coyote with a creative exhaust design, since there are no shock towers on this model. Overall, this car is a perfect blank slate for a really wild build.
This Galaxie was built on April 15, 1965, at Ford’s Twin Cities plant, rolling out of the factory in Honey Gold paint with an Ivy Gold interior and a 289ci V8. Greg, the owner of Moonshot Performance in Moorpark, CA, was excited to build this car, but his increased business demands now force its sale, freeing space and funds. Greg holds a clean California title in his name and registration is currently Non-Op with no back fees owed.

What You Get
Drivetrain & Chassis:
This Galaxie 500 Hardtop, VIN 5P66C128755, came from the factory with a 289ci V8, delivering 225 horsepower, paired with a C4 dual-range automatic transmission and a 3.00:1 open differential 8 inch rear axle. The engine and transmission are missing, making it a rolling chassis ready for your powertrain choice. The factory suspension, power steering, and four-wheel manual drum brakes are all in place. The rear axle spins freely, and all chassis components appear unmolested.
Body & Frame:
The body is remarkably rust-free with a couple small exceptions, showing clean floors, frame, roof, and major panels. Finished in factory Honey Gold, which can be seen in spots under the primer, it shows signs of past repairs with light/medium bondo on the driver and passenger quarter panels, plus the passenger quarter wheel arch, likely from dent repairs rather than rust. The driver fender is an OEM replacement with some minor damage behind the bumper area, likely from a fender bender accident. The passenger fender is original and in excellent condition with no previous repairs. Doors and hood close with factory gaps. All factory glass is installed and crack-free. The original grille and exterior trim are present, preserving the Galaxie’s bold look. The transmission crossmember with E-brake lever are included, in addition to headlight buckets, tail light bezels, and assorted trim pieces.
Interior & Floors:
The interior retains its factory dash and rear seat, upholstered in Ivy Gold fabric and vinyl, offering visions of its stylish past. The front seats and door panels are missing, but the dash is complete with gauges and controls. The floors are rust-free, providing a strong base for restoration. The steering column and wheel are in place, ready for clean-up or customization. An additional speedometer cluster is included.

What You Need
Drivetrain & Chassis:
The missing 289ci V8 and C4 transmission leave the drivetrain a blank slate. The rear axle with 3.00:1 gears needs inspection, and you may want performance gears and differential for a performance build. The drum brakes require a full rebuild (shoes, lines, hardware) or upgrade to disc brakes. A driveshaft, fuel system, and battery are needed. Suspension bushings and shocks should be checked and replaced as necessary.
Body & Frame:
Bodywork focuses on addressing past repairs: smooth light to medium bondo on the driver quarter (center/rear, with drilled holes), passenger quarter (lower front, wheel arch, middle rear). Verify if some areas are thick paint rather than bondo as that’s what it seems. The trunk lid is missing and must be sourced. Part of the underside trunk channel on the driver side is rusted. The grille and trim need polishing, and new weather stripping is required. Both bumpers are missing.
Interior & Floors:
The interior needs a full restoration or custom to your taste. Source front seats and door panels to match the Ivy Gold rear seat if desired. The headliner and carpet are missing, requiring new kits. Gauges, radio, and controls need testing. The rust-free floors simplify the rebuild. There is a rust hole on the driver side firewall where there is a small shelf area as pictured.
